March 10, 2008

FORT COLLINS, Colo. - Junior Marcus Walker earned Newcomer of the Year and second-team all-conference honors following the 2007-08 regular season, the Mountain West Conference announced Monday. The award is given to the top non-freshman new to the league. Walker transferred to Colorado State from Indian Hills Community College prior to the season.

"I am pleased for Marcus," said Head Coach Tim Miles. "It is a well-deserved honor. He truly was a go-to guy this year and did it under the most difficult circumstances. I am proud to have coached him, proud of his attitude and look forward to bigger and better things next year."

Walker has played 997 minutes this season and is the only player for the Rams to start every game.  He is currently ranked fourth in single-season field goals and field-goal attempts on CSU's all-time lists.  He had 10 games this season with at least 20 points, including a record-setting 43-point performance at the Top of the World Classic. He notched a double-double at TCU with 20 points and 10 rebounds. He is currently has 516 points and needs just seven more to make the top-10 in single season points.

The Rams will open tournament action Wednesday at noon MDT in Las Vegas with Wyoming. The game will be broadcast on KLZ, 560 AM, and online to Rams All-Access subscribers at CSURams.com.
